Tips for your Business in a new world
Thriving During COVID-19
Designing since 1994
In a brave, new world dominated by COVID-19, many small businesses across the world are being forced to take action and shift the way their company operates. Here are some easy-to-use, often free software that we would recommend and small business tips so you can thrive.
Online Team Communication
“Zoom unifies cloud video conferencing, simple online meetings, and group messaging into one easy-to-use platform.” More tailored for the average small business.
“Hangouts brings conversations to life with photos, emoji, and even group video calls for free.” Often less business-oriented, but can certainly be used for meetings and more.
“Slack is where work flows. It’s where the people you need, the information you share, and the tools you use come together to get things done.” I would highly recommend this tool for teams of more than 2-3 people. It’s very helpful!
“Send notes that will self-destruct after being read.” This is helpful when you don’t want vital information existing on your storage platforms or otherwise.
Sending & Receiving Files
“WeTransfer is the simplest way to send your files around the world. Share large files up to 2GB for free.” Often the limit on the average email is 50MB or under. If we’re all working from home, we’ll need a way to send larger files. This does just that!
“Dropbox is a modern workspace designed to reduce busywork-so you can focus on the things that matter. Sign in and put your creative energy to work.” The primary way today’s files are stored in the cloud and shared across teams. Dropbox is the king of its industry and is vital to even Studio490’s daily tasks.
“Monday.com powers teams to run processes, workflows, and projects in one digital workspace.” Click-Up and Monday are very similar. Incredibly focused on task-building and making sure teams are all on the same page.
“Our mission is to make the world more productive. To do this, we’ve built one app to replace them all – Tasks, Docs, Goals, and Chat.” Click-Up can combine tasks, team chat, and documents. I would utilize it for tasks more than anything, however. It has a learning curve but could make your life of team tasks easier.
“A new tool that blends your everyday work apps into one. It’s the all-in-one workspace for you and your team.” If your team isn’t task-heavy and you need a place to house content and minimal tasking, Notion does this really well.
Small Business Tips for Going Online
This is the time to invest in your digital presence, not pull back.
In times of trouble, the first thing most small businesses pull is their marketing or digital efforts. We would urge you to not make this mistake with COVID-19. This is the time to push in and utilize all of the strengths of a digital world!
Many of our clients are facing difficult decisions and aren’t sure how to transition. Here are some quick and easy ideas on ways to thrive in a digital world:
- Turn a physical meeting into a digital meeting. This can work for a meeting, conference, or event. Find ways to make it a virtual experience, either live or pre-recorded.
- Host weekly Facebook Lives to communicate with clients and give updates on your business.
- Meet clients and potential clients via Zoom, Google Hangouts so you can still have a personal touch via video conferencing.
- Take this time to make your team more efficient with tools like Slack or Monday.com.
- Communicate more often with your clients than you did before; they’re probably just as worried and anxious as you are. Be clear on social media, email marketing, and your website. This could be with content concerning COVID-19 or content pushing your services, communicating you’re still open for business!
- Invest in content on both your website via blog articles or social media updates that communicate about COVID-19 but also about why your business is still helpful. With people at home and looking for content to consume, it’s time to give the people what they want.
