You Were Made To Be Creative
We often classify creativity as merely having the ability to create something new, but our creative minds come alive in daily menial tasks. You were designed to glorify God and live your life as a testimony by using the gifts that God has given to you. You don’t have to be making art to be creative and to lift up our God. What is ultimately required in creativity is hard work, passion, faithfulness and commitment to excellence.
Where Your Creativity Comes From
You have been given purpose, skills, and gifts that can be used to glorify our Creator. Whether it’s through visual art, music, video production, sculpting, etc., you’ve been gifted. How will you steward this gift? With laziness? I don’t think you would, not if you fully understood who gave you this talent.
A Caution to Burnout
Before you throw yourself into every local project and devoid yourself of any free time, consider that God does indeed call us to work hard, but he also calls us to rest. What an essential component of our creativity! Matthew 11:28-30 says, “28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
In Jesus Christ, we receive rest from our weariness, and though our calling is great, we can rest in the fact that what God purposes, he will bring to fruition. What he deploys, he will nourish. This allows us to take a break, enjoy His creation, and not drown in workloads. In God, we’re called to a life of balance. A life between overworking ourselves and spending all of our time on the couch.
A Call to Excellence
What we are gifted in, we have been called to the highest excellence. We aren’t to provide our creator with merely average results. If you are an artist and are competing in the Engage Art contest, God is looking for you to make something that truly glorifies Him. Your creativity is worship of our Creator. It’s what you were made to do; to reflect the One who created it all. The One who will give you purpose, forgiveness, and love. If I were creating for someone that glorious, I’d give it everything I had.
